The Blue Ridge foothills seen across open pasture from Six Mile

Western Upstate MLS

Six Mile, South Carolina

A quiet foothills town minutes from Clemson and Lake Keowee.

Six Mile is one of Pickens County's smallest towns, tucked into the foothills between Clemson and the mountains. It's the kind of place where the pace slows down, with country roads, long views, and Lake Keowee just a short drive away.

Despite the quiet, you're never far from what you need. Clemson University, Central, and the shops along US-123 are all within an easy drive, which makes Six Mile popular with folks who want land and elbow room without giving up convenience.

Known for

  • Quiet small-town living near Lake Keowee
  • Short drive to Clemson University
  • Foothills scenery and country roads

Getting around

Roughly 15-20 minutes to Clemson and about 40 minutes to downtown Greenville.

Around Six Mile

The name is literal: the settlement grew up six miles along the old Cherokee Path from Keowee, the Cherokee town — and later the trading post at Fort Prince George — that now lies beneath Lake Keowee. Main Street still roughly follows the route of that path, which carried traders between the Lower Cherokee towns and Charleston long before there was a town here at all.

Mile Creek County Park is the local doorway to the water, a Pickens County park a few minutes from town with boat ramps, rental cabins, and dozens of campsites strung along the Keowee shoreline. In town, the pattern stays simple: modest homes on small lots near the center, farmland and long driveways starting almost immediately beyond, and most of the newer construction rising along the roads that run toward the lake.
