Two campus landmarks matter even if you never take a class. The South Carolina Botanical Garden spreads across 295 acres at the edge of campus — the state's official botanical garden, laced with public walking paths, streams, and display gardens — and Fort Hill, John C. Calhoun's antebellum home, still stands at the heart of the university grounds as a National Historic Landmark. Residents treat the garden as a neighborhood park as much as a destination.

The bigger green asset is the Clemson Experimental Forest, more than 17,000 acres of university-managed woods wrapping the town on both sides, with trail networks for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding that locals use year-round. It changes what living here feels like: neighborhoods a few minutes from College Avenue back up to genuine forest, and an after-work trail run is a normal part of the week here.
