The history behind Parkins Mill
The name comes from a water powered grist mill the Parkins family built between 1825 and 1830 where Brushy Creek meets the Reedy River. It ground corn and wheat for more than a century before the property was sold in the 1920s to the newly formed sewer authority, and the treatment plant that replaced it is still there today, run by ReWa. The road that led to the mill kept the name, and for a long time it was a dirt road through farmland. The first house on Parkins Mill Road went up in 1951, when this was considered the country.
The neighborhood filled in through the 1960s and 1970s, with more homes added into the 1980s and 1990s and a handful of new custom builds since. It sits southeast of Alta Vista between Augusta Road and Laurens Road.

What sets Parkins Mill apart in the in town market is land. Lots average around three quarters of an acre, with the largest running past an acre and a half, and they are mostly level and shaded by mature oaks and hardwoods. The houses were built to match: sprawling brick ranches, two story brick traditionals, and a notable number of mid century modern homes, many of which have been carefully preserved or fully renovated. Newer construction on the larger parcels tends toward custom homes of 3,500 square feet and up.
Streets are quiet, lighted, and mostly sidewalk lined, and there is no master homeowners association governing the area. Sara Collins Elementary sits on Parkins Mill Road itself, though school assignments are set by address and we verify zoning for any home you are considering.
Getting around from Parkins Mill
Downtown Greenville is about ten minutes away by Augusta Road or Cleveland Street, and the Augusta Road shops and restaurants are closer still. Laurens Road and Pleasantburg Drive lead to I-85 and I-385, and the Woodruff Road shopping corridor is a short drive east. Gower Estates Park, with ballfields, tennis and pickleball courts, and a disc golf course, is next door, and Cleveland Park and the Swamp Rabbit Trail are a few minutes north.
