The homes along Augusta Road
Augusta Road is less a subdivision than a stretch of the city, running roughly two miles along Augusta Street from the edge of downtown out toward the Greenville Country Club. The ZIP code gives the area its nickname, "the 05," and it covers dozens of side streets with their own character. East Tallulah Drive is known for wider lots and old specimen trees, Mount Vista Avenue for its double sidewalks, and the streets near Rockwood Park for sitting between the park and the club.
The housing stock spans nearly a century. The oldest homes date from the 1920s and 1930s and lean Colonial Revival, Tudor, Georgian, and Craftsman, with brick bungalows filling many of the blocks closer to downtown. Mid century ranches came next, and in the last two decades a steady run of teardowns and full renovations has added modern farmhouses and new custom homes on the same streets. Lots run from under a fifth of an acre near the corridor to an acre or more on the outer streets, and there is no homeowners association, so what you see on a given street is a mix of eras rather than a single builder's plan.
Shopping and dining on Augusta Street
The corridor itself is what people mean when they say they want to live on Augusta Road. Augusta Street is one of Greenville's oldest shopping and dining strips and it is still lined with small, locally owned businesses: boutiques, consignment and antique shops, a toy store, a specialty grocer, and neighborhood restaurants with real regulars. Harris Teeter anchors everyday errands, and it is common to see residents run those errands by golf cart or on foot.
The annual Summer on Augusta festival closes part of the street for live music and a car show, and the Greenville Country Club, established in 1895, sits at the neighborhood's southern end with two 18 hole golf courses and tennis for its members.
Getting around from Augusta Road
Downtown Greenville and its Main Street restaurants, the Peace Center, and Falls Park are a few minutes north. Cleveland Park and the Swamp Rabbit Trail run along the neighborhood's eastern edge, so a bike ride to downtown or up to Travelers Rest starts at the end of the street rather than in a parking lot. Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital is a short drive south, and Augusta Road connects to I-85 in about ten minutes for commutes toward the airport, Mauldin, or Anderson.
Augusta Circle Elementary has stood in the neighborhood since 1923, though school assignments are set by address and we verify zoning on any specific home. Prices range widely here because the homes do, from smaller cottages on the near downtown blocks to fully rebuilt estates on the larger lots. We will pull comparable sales for the exact street you are considering.
