Williamston, South Carolina

A small town built around a mineral spring, with a beloved park at its heart.

Williamston grew up around a mineral spring, and the park that surrounds it — Mineral Spring Park — is still the heart of town. It's a classic small Upstate town with a walkable core, historic homes, and a pace that stays comfortably unhurried.

Each winter the park fills with lights for the town's long-running Christmas celebration, a tradition locals look forward to all year. With Anderson and Greenville both within an easy drive, Williamston suits buyers who want genuine small-town living without feeling cut off.

Around Williamston

For a stretch of the 1800s, Williamston was a resort town. After West Allen Williams found the spring on his land in 1842, visitors came from across the state to take the water, and hotels grew up around the park to hold them. One of those hotel buildings found a second life in 1872, when Samuel Lander opened Williamston Female College there — the school later moved to Greenwood and became Lander University.

The Spring Water Festival, organized in 1981, still packs Mineral Spring Park once a year with live music, an antique and classic car show, and long rows of vendors. The housing follows the town's timeline: Victorian and early-1900s houses on the blocks around the park, modest mid-century neighborhoods behind them, and newer construction filling in along the routes toward Anderson and Powdersville.
