Landrum, South Carolina
A foothills small town near the North Carolina line, in the heart of horse country.
Landrum sits in the far northern corner of Spartanburg County, where the Upstate meets the Blue Ridge foothills. Its walkable downtown of brick storefronts holds antique shops, cafés, and local restaurants, with mountain views never far from sight.
The surrounding countryside is horse country — the area around Landrum and neighboring Tryon, North Carolina, has a long equestrian tradition, and small farms and acreage properties are common here. It suits buyers who want scenery and elbow room while staying within reach of Spartanburg and Greenville.

Around Landrum
The railroad made the town. When the Asheville and Spartanburg line pushed north in 1877, Baptist minister John Gill Landrum gave land for a depot, and the town that took his name incorporated in 1883. The wooden depot still stands near the center of town. A few miles west, Campbell's Covered Bridge — built in 1909, the last covered bridge left in South Carolina — crosses Beaverdam Creek at a small county park.
Lake Lanier sits just outside town — a small lake named for the poet Sidney Lanier, its shoreline reaching across the North Carolina line and ringed by cottages and year-round homes on narrow lakeside roads. North of town rises the Blue Wall, the steep face of the Blue Ridge Escarpment, where nature preserves and trailheads put genuine mountain hiking within a few minutes of downtown, and the North Pacolet River winds along the state line.
