Travelers Rest was once exactly what its name suggests, a stopover before wagons climbed into the mountains. Today it is one of the most requested markets we serve, a small town shaped by the Swamp Rabbit Trail, set at the foot of the Blue Ridge and about 20 minutes from downtown Greenville. Here is what to know about the town, its neighborhoods and its market before you buy.
The trail runs through town
The Swamp Rabbit Trail runs straight down Main Street in Travelers Rest, and the restaurant patios face it. Trailblazer Park adds an amphitheater and a Saturday farmers market, and the trail leads to Gateway Park and its playground.
Main Street itself is compact and walkable. Farmhouse restaurants, Swamp Rabbit Brewery, boutiques and the café Tandem line it. New shops and townhomes keep arriving, but the scale still feels like a town rather than a suburb.
A gateway to the Blue Ridge
Travelers Rest sits at the foot of the Blue Ridge Escarpment. Paris Mountain State Park borders town. Caesars Head and Jones Gap state parks are about 30 minutes up Highway 276, and Table Rock is about 40 minutes along Highway 11, the Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway, which starts in Travelers Rest. Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway are about an hour north. The area is also known for road cycling, and pro cyclist George Hincapie’s Hotel Domestique sits just outside town.
The drive to Greenville
Downtown Greenville is about 10 miles south, roughly a 20 minute drive down US-276. On two wheels, the Swamp Rabbit Trail makes the same trip a flat, scenic ride of 45 to 60 minutes.
Neighborhoods and price ranges
The neighborhoods we point to most often are Downtown Travelers Rest, Cherokee Valley, The Cliffs Valley, the Paris Mountain North Slopes and the Highway 11 Corridor. Housing ranges from in town cottages and newer communities near the trail to mountain view acreage north of town. The Cliffs Valley is a gated golf community north of town in the Blue Ridge foothills, centered on golf and racquet sports.
As a general guide, in town homes and newer communities near the trail run from about $300,000 to $600,000, with cottages and older homes occasionally below that. North of town, mountain view acreage and custom homes start around $600,000, and The Cliffs Valley reaches well into the millions. These are broad ranges from our area guide, not current listings.
What the numbers said in August
Our August 2026 market update put the median sale price in Travelers Rest at $582,500 across 40 sales, with 137 homes for sale on September 25. That is about 4.5 months of supply, the most of the nine areas we track. At $227 per square foot, it also had the highest price per square foot of the nine.
The median needs careful reading. It rose from $425,000 in July, but fourteen of August’s forty sales were newly built homes, and the homes that sold were larger than July’s. Price per square foot, a steadier measure, was $227 in August against $240 in July, and resale price per square foot was 0.8% below last summer. Homes averaged 48 days on the market, about the same as the 47 days in the city of Greenville.
